The Rumbles group at NREL uses microwave spectroscopy to probe the excited state dynamics of photocatalysts as part of BioLEC’s investigative work into photoredox mechanisms. Transient dielectric loss (TRDL) spectroscopy has been developed to investigate ground- and excited-state dipoles of organometallic photocatalysts, and transient microwave conductivity (TRMC) is being used to probe free-carrier generation in a new type of photocatalyst with independently tunable oxidation and reduction properties.
